PARENT INPUT

PARENT INPUT

Dear Parents, as we are now approaching the end of the season, myself and the other coaches are already beginning to reflect on how things have gone and what we might do differently next season, to enhance player experience.

We have two key proposals for next season, on which we would appreciate your thoughts:

1) Currently we have 27 registered players plus 4 who have recently joined us for training only. If we have in excess of 30 players, it would be feasible to register three teams with the Exeter Youth League. The benefit would be greatly increased playing time for all players. A possible issue is that it would fragment the squad somewhat as one of the teams would have to be paired with another club for Saturday fixtures. There would also be an increased demand for coaching capacity. In this scenario we would need 2 more parents/coaches to join the team. Players would be allocated into 'their' team with the aim being that the three teams are of a similar standard. However there would still be some moving between teams when player absence deemed it necessary to do so.

2) We are currently enquiring as to the availability of astro on an evening in addition to our regular Monday night slot. The proposal would be that we would make the session available to around 12/14 players who would form a 'development group'. These players would be those who, based on Monday evening experience, are the most receptive to the coaching we have to offer. This would provide players with an opportunity for enhanced development. An additional aim would be to continue to grow closer links with Exeter City. The additional cost would be approximately £1.50 per session or £50 per year.
Monday evenings and Saturday mornings would continue to be fully inclusive.
This proposal obviously depends on availability of a suitable and cost effective venue.

Do let me have your feedback on both proposals. In addition, please also let me know if you are keen to get involved in the coaching and team management, if you would be willing/able to let your child join the development group and if you would be prepared to pay the additional fees for that group.

MATCH REPORT

Created: Sunday, 13 March 2016 15:15

This Saturday we welcomed Hemyock and Feniton to a warm and sunny KGV. It was a lovely morning of football played in great spirit by all and backed up by positive coaches and spectators. All of the games were entertaining with the Central teams playing some good passing football.

CITY 7 V 0 HEMYOCK

UTD 0 V 1 FENITON

CITY 4 V 2 FENITON

UTD 3 V 1 HEMYOCK

A big thank you to the two Dads, one Grandad and a brother who took care of the refereeing.

A number of players showed that they have really moved forward in their understanding of how passing and team work contributes to the overall performances of the teams. No one can do it on their own. I would encourage players to watch lots of football so that they can learn from others and also parents can help my repeating the key messages we share with the players about working together, playing unselfishly, looking for passing options when you have the ball and making yourself a passing option when your team mates have it.

Players of the Day - James for City and Jago for Utd

Next week City have a Cup Semi-Final away vs Dawlish. I am hopeful that we can take two teams to Dawlish for the usual four game format. Check the website on Weds for full details. Let me know asap if your child is not avaiable.

This week we welcomed Alphington and Heavitree to KGV. All the players were happy that the grass had finally been cut so that they could play some football.

Both teams performed very well agianst strong opposition. Heavitree were particularly well organised, quick to close down space and strong in the tackle.

However, both Central teams were able to record a positive result in all the games.

Exeter City Development Squad

Created: Monday, 29 February 2016 21:02

GAMES vs EXETER CITY DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

The U9s have been given the opportunity to play matches against the Exeter City Development squad.

Weds 9th March at St Lukes Sports College, Harts Lane, Exeter.

KO is 6.15 so please arrive promptly by 6.00 to allow time for a warm-up.

We should be finished by 7.30pm.

Remember full Central Kit, drinks, snacks, shin pads and astro trainers.

This is a nice opportunity following some persistence on my part to make it happen. The nature of the fixture and the fact that it is being played on a Weds evening, means it sits outside of the usual set of fixtures and our regular Monday night training sessions.

We are also limited by the numbers dictated by the Exeter City coaches, so unfortunately, we are only able to include half of the squad. Those players and their parents will be notified accordingly.

We are sorry if there is any disappointment, however we just cannot include everyone. We will endeavour to keep everybody playing regularly for the rest of the season and there will be opportunities for all to be involved in summer tournaments during May and July.

MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT

This week the U9s welcomed Stoke Hill Juniors in the Cup and Tiverton Town in a 'league' friendly. The cup game was first to KO and City were soon into their stride. Able to soak up pressure, they looked dangerous on the break, creating lots of chances and gaining a two goal advantage by half time. The second half was tighter but a third goal proved decisive. A late Stoke Hill effort kept the players on their toes but they were able to see the game out.

Utd played first against a spirited Tiverton Town. They had to work hard but played some nice football in a good win. City continued their good form against Tiverton, playing some lovely flowing football and lots of goals.

Utd put in a great performance against a very good Stoke Hill side and fought back brilliantly from two nil down to draw level. They might even feel they were unlucky not to come away with what would have been a deserved win.

RESULTS

City 3 v 1 Stoke Hill

Utd 3 v 0 Tiverton

City 5 v 0 Tiverton

Utd 2 v 2 Stoke Hill

Good to be Back!

Created: Sunday, 21 February 2016 19:37

MATCH REPORT

After several weeks of disruption due to the weather, the players and supporters were happy to be back out playing again. The U9s welcomed Okehampton Argyle and Newton Knights to a windy KGV.

Utd opened proceedings playing some great football and creating lots of chances against a good Argyle team. Early goals from Cayden and Olly were followed by more in the second half, leading to a good win.

City started well against Newton but found goals hard to come by in the first half. However, led by the outstanding Reilly, they cut loose in the second half for a convincing win.

In their second match Utd found things harder going but Charlie, Olly and Cayden all did their best to force a win. It was always a close game and Utd just lost out in the end.

Against Oke, City again struggled to find the back of the net despite their domination. Once again the second half was a different story and they ran out comfortable winners.

Goal scorers - Olly 4, Cayden 2, Charlie S 1, Reilly 5, Joel 3, Jayden 2, Ed 2, Sam 2.

TEAM NEWS for Saturday 13th Feb

This week we are at home vs Alphington and Heavitree. This is a fixture which was previously postponed and which we have switched to 'home'.

As last week's fixtures were postponed, I have kept teams the same except where parents have informed me that their child is not available.

Please note that I won't be there this week.

Therefore Mike and Steve will need extra support with putting up and taking down goals.

I would also appreciate it very much if one or two parents came along prepared to referee. I have asked the opposition to help out in this regard too and they have agreed so it won't be an onerous task, hopefully just one of the games.

As usual a 1030 KO so please arrive at 0945. Remember full kit, warm clothes, drinks, snacks, studs and shin pads.

Keep an eye on this webpage, emails and texts, should there be a need to postpone. Certainly check before leaving home on Saturday morning.

City - Alastair, Ed B, Finley, Freddie, Jaiden, Joel, Josh S, Matilda, Matthew, Reilly

MATCH REPORT

Created: Sunday, 31 January 2016 19:05

MATCH REPORT

Following a spell of slightly drier weather, everyone seemed pleased that our matches were able to go ahead. The only disappointment was that Exeter Panthers were only able to field one team rather than two.

City were first up against Panthers. The long grass seemed to be causing problems for the more skillful players, preventing them from causing their usual problems for the opposition. Panthers were well organised, closing down space quickly, and very strong and physical in the tackle. Despite all of this City had several good chances well saved and managed to take a first half lead with Jaiden poking in the rebound following a long range Reilly effort. The second half saw City well on top but unable to add to their tally until late on when a quickly worked short corner saw James whip in low hard cross which cannoned off the defenders and rolled just over the line.

Utd were able to field a strong line up and were soon quickly into their stride. From the off they moved the ball well when in possession whilst working hard to win the ball back when they weren't. Cayden opened the scoring with a good finish from Sam's cross.  The second was an amazing strike from Raffy and the third was a close range Raffy shot after a great through ball from Oscar. This was probably the most complete Utd performance all season and the team went home very happy.

Players of the Day - Milo for Utd and Matilda for City

RESULTS

CITY 2 V 0 PINK PANTHERS
