CITY 3 V 1 AXMINSTER

UTD 8 V 0 COLYTON

It was a good day at the 'office' for both teams on Saturday. Unfortunately Colyton came a couple of players short which made things difficult for them whilst Axminster proved to be strong, well organised opponents. Both Central teams played some very good passing football at times and a long list of players got on the scoresheet including Raffy, Charlie, Olly, Jaiden, Oscar, Joe, Josh, Sam and James.

Player of the Day - Joel Westley. Deserves a special mention because he volunteered to play for Colyton to make up their numbers. In the second game he put in a very good defensive display for City too. Well done Joel!!

West Exe Youth - 2        Central City - 12

Saturday 26th September 2015

With Goals from Charlie Heaton (4), William Franchi (3), Aram Share-Turner (2), George Russell (2) and Marcel Wloch, City under 11`s cruised to a comfortable win against their hosts at Cowick Barton Fields.

3 Goals in the first 10 minutes had West Exe on the back foot, to their credit they fought back with 2 quick goals of their own.

4 futher City first half goals had the game in the bag enabling the squad to be rotated around after the break giving all the players a good run out.

5 more unanswered goals in the second period saw Central in cruise control creating a host of chances, but a combination of last ditch tackling and great goalkeeping from the West Exe goalie kept the scoreline down.

All in All a good day, great football played with pace, commitment and with a fantastic team ethic.

A mention to the West Exe Squad, Management and Parents who were first class, they made us feel welcome and as we do applauded every goal scored by both teams.

Match report for Central Galaxy – September 5th 2015

Central Galaxy  0  West Exe Youth 1

Central Galaxy  8  West Exe Rangers 1

"Today in our first game vs West Exe Youth we tried really hard and we had lots of chances on goal. But there goal keeper was phenomenal.

In the second match vs West Exe Rangers it was very different. Tom played striker and he played fantastic and nearly created 2 assists, and had 3 chances at goal. Tom made 2 amazing tackles and got 2 goals. Ben was playing centre back and made 5 awesome tackles, he pushed forward a bit and nearly created an assist. He passed the ball really well. Enrique on his debut played really well, he set the ball up for Tom and just skimmed the post. Felix played in midfield and made some really good chances and nearly scored as well. Aiden played in midfield and ran with the ball fantastically and caused the defence real problems, finishing 2 great goals. Reuben was excellent in defence and got stuck in awesomely. Ali was great at left midfield and got several assists and also hit the post. Finley ran strongly with the ball got an assist and finished 4 goals."

8-1 to Central Galaxy – what a start.

(Editor's note: Ali Douglas contests one of Aiden's goals and claims it as his own. It's a team game so it doesn't really matter but still... the debate begins)

Match report for Central Santos – September 5th 2015

Central Santos 6 West Exe Rangers  1

Central Santos 0  West Exe Youth 3

"Central Santos welcomed West Exe Rangers to KGV for the opening fixture of the 2015/16 season. The weather was kind and the rain never materialised - so good conditions (other than a new burrow in the penalty area!). Central Santos made all the running in the first half, scoring 3 goals very quickly to put West Exe Rangers under pressure - with the visitors only getting out of their own half twice in the first 15 minutes! Santos players were showing no signs of rustiness with good passing and link play on show. The second half began with West Exe taking the game to Santos but the defence held firm with some notable tackles from James Thornburgh and Archie Hoban (who acquitted themselves very well on their Central debuts) along with Charlie Drew who was dynamic as ever. Santos added 3 more goals in the second half, with a spectacular screamer from Nial Buechler giving the opposition keeper no chance and Cody Dowdall slicing through the West Exe midfield with a pinpoint pass to Billy Knightly who finished in style with the outside of the boot. To their credit West Exe Rangers kept trying and were rewarded with a last-second goal that just crossed the line from close range. Central Santos win 6-1.

The second game against West Exe Youth was a different affair, with the visitors looking like a well drilled and organised team. Santos were by no means outclassed and went close a couple of times through Levi Owens and Billy Knightly in the first half. Joe Wood in goal kept Santos in the game early in the second half with three great saves in quick succession but West Exe Youth kept up the pressure as Santos showed signs of fatigue. Santos eventually lost 3 - 0 to a team we beat last season however there were real positives to pull from the game - most notably the attitude shown by all the players who never gave up.

Overall, a pretty good start to the season - considering only one training session before the first game and some of our experienced players unavailable! Thanks to Lee Owens for refereeing in both matches and to the parents who put up and took down the goals."

City Under 11`s Lose a Seven Goal Thriller

City under 11`s lost their first game of the season going down to a narrow 4-3 defeat against Crediton Youth.

Central City under 11`s fall to their first defeat of the season.

Central City 3  Crediton Youth 4

Saturday 19th September 2015

After observing an impeccable minute silence prior to kick off in memory of Oliver Croker, Central City under 11`s fell to their first defeat of the season in a tight evenly faught contest against Crediton Youth.

An early goal from Samuel Basham saw City take the lead following up after a smart save from the Crediton goalkeeper.

The lead however was short lived, Crediton catching City on the break only 2 minutes after taking the lead with their striker powerfully finishing from just inside the box.

End to end football was the order of the day with both teams creating clear cut chances but a combination of good goalkeeping and woeful finishing keeping the scores level until 10 minutes before the break.

Crediton took the lead for the first time on 20 minutes, City caught out in the midfield and a swift counter attack saw Crediton take the lead with a ball crossed in low from the left hand side and with no defender in sight the Crediton striker swept the ball into the net giving the City keeper no chance.

City to their credit responded well a sharp shot from Basham was pushed behind by the Crediton keeper and from the resulting corner Aram Share-Turner headed the equilizer, making the half time score 2-2.

The start to the second half was a little frantic with both sides wanting to gain the upperhand, Crediton being foiled by a smart save from City keeper Corey Chudley and City putting the ball just wide from George Russell.

Crediton were handed the lead back 10 minutes into the half  when confussion in the City defence saw a ball not cleared,  a shot from the Crediton striker clipped off a City defender pass the keeper to give them a 3-2 lead.

Not wanting to be out done City again went after the equilizer finding their reward with a good finish, a scramble in the Crediton box saw the ball pinballing around falling eventually to Marcel Wloch who powered a finish from 8 yards out.

Moving into the final quater of the game saw the final goal of the game, City again caught out in the midfield area allowed Crediton to play a ball through their defence, the pace of the striker allowed him to run clear slotting the ball pass the advancing Chudley into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The final 10 minutes saw City bravely try and get back into the game but the final whistle saw their efforts thwarted.

Away Day Wins!

Created: Sunday, 20 September 2015 00:00

On Saturday the U9s visited West Exe. Proceedings started with a well observed minutes silence in rememberance of Oliver Croker.

It was a lovely day and the pitches were in very good condition. Both teams started brightly and were soon into their stride, running out comfortable winners in the first two matches. The second round of matches saw City win and Utd lose a closely contested game. There were lots of goals from Raffy, Jaiden, James, Matthew, Reilly, Ben and Ed. We also saw lots of exciting attacking football and hard working defenders too. Notable performances included some stunning saves from Matilda and Jack including an amazing penalty save by Jack on his debut! All of the other debutants, Joe, Sam, Charlie S, Ed W and Jago performed really well and showed plenty of promise.

Once again all of the players played fairly and honestly and despite some heavy West Exe tackling, they remained calm at all times, well done.

Central City Won 5-4 on Penalties

Saturday 12th September 2015

A slow start saw Central City Under 11`s 3-0 down after just 9 minutes in their Preliminary Round Cup match against a strong Pinhoe Gladiators side.

Belief , passion and a never give up attitude saw an amazing response from a group of players, seeing off their higher league opponents in a tense and exciting manor.

2 goals before the half time break from William Franchi and a couple of fantastic saves from goalkeeper Corey Chudley pulled Central back into the contest between two evenly matched teams.

An early goal from a corner in the second half ficked in by Aram Share-Turner drew the sides level and the completion of hat trick for the second week running by Franchi set up a highly charged and controversial ending to the match. Going into added time the ball was played through the Central defence to a player clearly 3 yards offside, with the flag raised the striker ran free at goal the referee allowing him to put the ball away for a very dubiuos goal.

Extra Time followed, solid defending and renewed confidence saw Central break away, a thunderous shot from Charlie Heaton was pushed over the bar giving them a corner from which more controversy was sparked. The inswinging corner was pushed away from goal by the Gladiators keeper straight to the feet of Wictor Iwanicki, he powered the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards only to have the celebrations cut short by the linesman flag waving for offside. A Gladiator free kick from distance flew over the bar followed a dipping shot from the edge of the box by Thom Robertson which struck the frame of the goal and was scrambled to saftey by the Pinhoe defence sending the game into a penalty shoot out.

Both teams scored their first 4 penalties with the ball being slotted away into corners and the roof of the net confidently ,Heaton, Share-Turner, Alfie Pickering and Captain Jack Long for City. Then the break came, Gladiators 5th penalty was saved by Chudley in the Central goal leaving Samuel Basham the chance to sent City into the first round proper. Basham looking very nervous kept his cool slotting the ball away into the bottom right hand corner of the net sparking wild celebrations in the City camp.

This was a well earned and deserved win played by a team who never give up - WELL DONE BOYS !!!!!

Line Up:
